 Singular &Plural Nouns 


There are nouns that denote one person or thing and also more than one person or thing.


The nouns that refer to one person or thing are called 

Singular Nouns 

& 
The nouns that refer to  more than one person or thing are called
Plural Nouns 


Look at the following examples
      


boy
boys  

  







ox
oxen







child

children 










The plural nouns are formed in different ways

They are generally formed by adding  -S  to the singular noun



                  boy ,boy                               girl , girls
                  book ,books                            cow , cows
                  pen ,pens                                 tree ,trees
                  bird ,birds                               teacher ,teachers
                  star ,stars                                eye ,eye


But nouns ending  in -S ,-Sh , -Ch , -X  form the plural by adding  -es to the singular noun

                   class , classes                 kiss , kisses
                   dish , dishes                   brush, brushes 
                   match,matches             watch watches 
                   branch branches
