 What is a preposition?
A
Preposition
is a word placed
before
 a
noun or a pronoun
to show in what
 
relation
 the person or thing denoted by it stand in regard to
something else 

Look at the following picture

There is a doll 

Where is the doll?

The doll is on the chair 

Here on is a preposition

It is placed before the noun phrase  the chair  to show the relation it has with the doll

It shows  the place  of the doll


look at the  following situation

He wakes up early in the morning.

When does he wake up?

He wakes up early in the morning.

Here in is a preposition


It is placed before the noun phrase  the morning  to show the relation it has with he



It shows  the time  he wakes up
