Subject Pronouns

 

The pronouns used as the subject of the sentence are called

Subject Pronouns 

I am a teacher.

I teach English

You are a good child.

You are all welcome.

 He is a clever boy.

 He studies well.

She is a pretty girl.

She is going to school.

It is on the table.

It drinks milk.

We are good friends.

We are going on a tri tomorrow.

They are students.

They study in my class.

 

The highlighted words used in the above sentences are subject pronouns because they are used as the subject of the sentence.

Subject pronouns can be categorize according to the

Gender

is used instead of both

masculine and feminine

Instead if either a man   or a woman

               He teaches mathematics.

 

That boy is clever.

The farmer ploughs the field.

He works hard.

He was very happy.

He ordered his guards to take the prisoner away.


She

 is used instead of  

feminine

nouns

                                              


Instead of either a girl or a woman

My mother is a teacher.

She teaches English.

 

That girl is clever.

She studies in my class.

 

My sister does gardening.

She loves it very much.

 

Princess Diana was very beautiful.

She was loved by everybody in the world.

 

The queen of England visited our county.

She visited the Temple of the Tooth during her visit.

Examples


The cat drinks milk.

It likes milk very much.

 

The book is on the table.

It is my book.

 

The crow is a common bird in Sri Lanka.

It is black in colour

 

There is a big tree in the garden.

It is a very shady tree.

 

 That car  is my neighbours.

It  is a new one. 



They

is used instead of both

masculine, feminine and neuter

nouns

                        
 

Instead of either a boy or  a man or a woman or a girl or  a thing

Examples


The cats drink milk.

              They like milk very much.

 

The boys play in the front yard.

They play hopscotch.

 

The two sisters love each other very much.

              They are always happy.

 

The trees are very big and tall.

              They are very strong.
