Let’s begin

 

            As we all know Kurulu goes to the beach every weekend. Will she be at the week end next weekend? Yes, she will go to the beach next Sunday too. She will not go there alone. She will visit the beach with her family. Many tourists will be at the beach. When she will be at the beach the sun will shine brightly in the sky. The weather will be ideal for an outing. They all will love to enjoy at the beach on a sunny day. Vihanga, her elder brother will fly kites. He will enjoy it very much. His little brother Pavan will ride a pony. Her father will walk beside him. Pavan will enjoy the ride happily. Her friends also will join them in that visit as usual. Her friends Smanali and Sepalika will build sand castles. Kokila and Pavan will play with a ball. Kokila will throw the ball and Pavan will catch. Sandaras will collect sea shells because it is his hobby. After building sand castles Samanali and Seplaika will bathe in the sea. Will they be happy? Yes, they will be very happy. What will Kurulu do when she is at the beach? Kurulu will sit and watch the rolling waves in the sea first as usual and then she will collect seashells on the beach. They won’t idle a single moment. What will their mother do? Will mother join them to make sand castles? No their mother will sit on a rock, watching them at play as she usually does. An ice-cream seller will sell ice cream. He will sell different kinds of ice-cream next Sunday too. Will the Kadala vendor be there on that day? The Kadala vendor will also be at the beach. Children will run to buy ice-cream and kadala. By the time the sun sets they all will go back home. It will be an enjoyable weekend once again.

 

When you read this story you find that Kurulu and others at the beach do some actions as usual.

They are the actions that they will do when they visit the beach next weekend.

 

We use

Simple Future Tense

to talk about

a single act
in future time

 

The above story also tells us about how Kurulu, her family and her friends will spend their next week end.

Here we predict what they might do next week end which has not yet come

 

Look at the following sentences again paying attention to the highlighted verbs

Many tourists will be at the beach.

Will she be at the week end next weekend?

She will go to the beach next Sunday too.

She will not go there alone.

She will visit the beach with her family.

 When she will be at the beach the sun will shine brightly in the sky.

The weather will be ideal for an outing

 They all will love to enjoy at the beach on a sunny day.

 Vihanga, her elder brother will fly kites.

He will enjoy it very much.

 Do you notice any difference in the use of the verb?

Yes, there is a difference.

The verbs are in their infinitive form with the future indicator will

Kokila and Pavan will play with a ball.

She will collect seashells on the beach.

 

 And in some will not before the infinitive verb.

She will not go there alone.

They will not idle a single moment.

 

And in some will be & will not be is there.

The weather will be ideal for an outing

 

 So we need to learn the reason for that difference

For that we need to learn how the simple present sentences are formed.

When talking about actions happen we use

 

Subject   +   will / shall + Verb  + Object / Adverbial

 

But

 If the subject is singular or plural, or if we talk about one person or more than one person we use

 

 

 

 

Subject  + will +  Verb + Object / Adverbial

(infinitive)

                  She            will    visit       the beach with her family.

When asking about actions happen (interrogative form) we use

Will  & Shall

We form ‘yes, no’ questions in the present simple by adding the auxiliary

Will or Shall before the subject of the verb.

What are ‘yes, no’ questions?

They are the questions which get either yes or no as the answer.

If the subject is singular or Plural  or if we ask about one person or more than one we use

 

Will      +      Subject      +       Verb      +         Object / Adverbial

(infinitive)

Will she go to the beach next week end?

Yes, she will.

Will she go to the beach on weekdays?

No , she will not.

We form ‘information’ questions in the present simple by adding a question word before the auxiliary do or does before the subject of the verb.

What are ‘information’ questions?

They are the questions which get certain information as the answer.

If the subject is singular or plural or if we ask about one person or more than one person we use

 

Question word+will /shall + Subject  +  Verb   + Object /  Adverbial


Where            will                    she               go                      next week end?

She will go to the beach next weekend.
