Reciprocal pronouns

 

          Look at the following sentences.



 People are different from one another.





Two friends with different personalities should not mock at each other.

 




The students help one another  in their studies.




The two angry boys were fighting with each other.



In the above examples



 one another is used to show that same action is done by

more than two people

 

 

each other  shows that same action is  done by two people

 

Each other

refers to

two people



One another

 refers to

more than two people



They are called

Reciprocal Pronouns

 

 We use Reciprocal Pronouns when two or more people do the same thing.

 

Reciprocal pronouns helps to prevent repetition within sentences.

 

Akash and Smanali gave each other gold rings on their wedding day.



Pahan and Pavan were talking to each other in the hallway.



We give each other gifts during the holidays.




The students congratulated one another after giving practice speeches.



The kids spent the afternoon kicking the ball to one another








They blamed each other for the fault they were alleged with.


 



We also use  possessive forms

 

 each other’s 

and

 one another’s

 

They helped to look after each other’s children.

We often stayed in one another’s houses.

 

We do not use reciprocal pronouns as the subject of a clause.
